Services

For students

Living somewhere temporary, with a doctor in another city and a drug plan you were enrolled in without reading. That combination is the whole problem.

You probably have drug coverage

Most student associations in Ontario enrol you in a health and dental plan automatically, with a short window each year to opt out. Which means a great many people pay cash at a counter while holding coverage they forgot they had.

Bring your student card and whatever plan details you can find, and we will work out what you are actually covered for. It takes one conversation and it is frequently the most useful thing that happens in it.

If you opted out because you were covered by a parent’s plan, you can often claim against both. Coordinating them is ordinary and it is worth asking about.

Prescriptions from another city

A prescription written anywhere in Canada can generally be filled here, and your prescriber does not need to be nearby — renewals happen by fax and phone. Transferring a prescription from a pharmacy at home takes one conversation and does not require you to collect anything first.

If you go home for the summer and come back, that moves both ways without drama.

If you have no prescriber at all

Common, and a solvable problem rather than a permanent state. The clinic upstairs is a walk-in as well as a family practice, and a pharmacist can assess and prescribe for a defined list of conditions without any appointment at all.

Everything else on this site applies to you

This page is deliberately short, because there is no separate student version of anything here. Sexual health, gender-affirming care, vaccinations and supplies on an open shelf are the same services, offered the same way.

What changes at this stage of life is usually the logistics, not the medicine.

Common questions

I am an international student.

Then your coverage works differently and is worth going through carefully, since it usually is not OHIP. Bring what you were given at registration.

Will anything go on a record my parents can see?

If you claim against a parent’s plan, the plan holder can generally see that a claim was made. That is worth knowing BEFORE you use it rather than after, and we will tell you plainly when it applies to what you are filling.

Can I get delivery to residence?

Yes, and the packaging says nothing about what is inside. See delivery.

I cannot afford it this month.

Say so. It is a common situation with more routes out of it than most people realise, and none of them start with pretending otherwise.

Kind Clinic on the second floor is a walk-in clinic, no referral and no roster needed. Kind Clinic and Kind Pharmacy are separate businesses under common ownership. You can fill your prescription anywhere.
