HIV & sexual health

doxyPEP

Taken after sex, which means the only version that works is the one already in your bathroom cupboard on the night you need it.

Advance supply is the entire point

A prescription you have to collect first is a prescription that does not help you on a Saturday night. So the arrangement that matters is a supply dispensed in advance and kept topped up, rather than one filled reactively.

That is not a clinical innovation. It is just logistics, and logistics is the part most often left to fall over.

The measure of whether this is working is boring: do you have some right now, without checking?

What we will handle

Dispensing the prescription your prescriber writes, keeping track of when a top-up is due rather than waiting for you to run out, and working out your coverage so that cost is a known quantity instead of a surprise at the counter.

Delivery is available if getting here is the obstacle, and the packaging says nothing about what is inside.

What a pharmacist cannot do

Start you on it. This needs a prescriber, and it is not on Ontario’s minor ailments list. If you do not have a prescriber, that is a solvable problem rather than a dead end.

What it will cost

It depends on your drug coverage rather than on OHIP. Several routes exist in Ontario and which applies depends on your circumstances, so the useful thing is to have that worked out before you are standing at the counter deciding.

You will be told what it costs you before it is dispensed. That is the whole of the policy, and it applies to everything here.

Common questions

Can I get it at the same time as PrEP?

Yes, and doing both in one visit is the ordinary arrangement rather than a special request. See PrEP.

How much should I keep on hand?

A question for your prescriber, and worth asking explicitly — the quantity written is often the thing that decides whether advance supply actually works.

Does the label say what it is?

A dispensing label carries what the law requires it to carry. Nothing on the bag, the box or a delivery docket says anything about why you take it. See what appears on a label.

Do I have to fill it here?

Kind Clinic and Kind Pharmacy are separate businesses under common ownership. You can fill your prescription anywhere.
